According to the Department of Health:

* At least 40% of women experience complications during pregnancy, childbirth, or after childbirth, and about 15% develop potentially life-threatening problems.

* At least 30-40% of infant deaths is the result of the mother’s poor health and poor care during pregnancy and childbirth.

* At least 60% of pregnant women in developing countries are anemic.

* Poor maternal health and nutrition contribute to low birth weight of about 20% of babies.
