My Life Joys Celebrates One Year!

On May 29, 2009, in Uncategorized, by mylifejoys

It has been a year of blogging!

To all those who took time to read whatever is published in My Life Joys, Thank You.
Since My Life Joys started, it was not easy at first for a non-writer and non-IT to write articles and learn the technicalities of blogging.

And yet the comments and emails that you sent served as assurance that despite the trying times, we still make the most of what life has to offer and just enjoy the ride.

Share the Love, Share the Joy!

Pho24, Vietnamese Noodles

On May 28, 2009, in Food, by mylifejoys

What makes office lunches a time well spent? For working people like me, this is an hour to rush… Does it seem enough to enjoy?  Sometimes it’s not just the food that makes up this sixty minutes of break from tons of work load but also the people whom I spent it with. So for today why not have the best of both worlds right?  Have a good meal and spend it with a dear friend. Cecil invited me to Pho24 Vietnamese Noodles in Power Plant Mall, Rockwell and it was such a good discovery.

It has been a long time since I had Vietnamese dishes. At first I was thinking, “Oh well, what should I expect but spring rolls and togue (bean sprouts)… just like expecting siew mai or siomai in Chinese restaurants, maki or sushi in Japanese restaurants, or pasta and pizza and Italian restaurants.”  True enough there are togue and spring rolls, but they were not just togue and spring rolls.  This particular dining experience in Pho24 has given me a good impression of Vietnamese dishes.  It was more than just a Pho, which is thinly sliced meat in noodles soup or fancy spring rolls in rice wrappers.

Onion, Basil, Parsley, Chili, Bean Sprouts, Lemon Wedge

Astroboy, The First Manga

On May 10, 2009, in Movie, by mylifejoys

Manga is the japanese term for comics or cartoons.  The birth of Manga is the birth of Astroboy… or we can also say that the birth of Astroboy is the birth of Anime.  In 1952, it may not have been what is popularly termed as anime now, Osamu Tezuka has created an android hero in Astroboy.

During that time when robots or even the kind of technology that we enjoy today, Osamu Tezuka has already created the future. From comics to the boob tube, “Astro” has been a hero for so many generation of kids since 1963 not just in Japan but all over the world.

In the present time, a CG Film will relaunch the most love android, Astro, by Imagi Animation Studios on October 23, 2009.

TV: Grey's Anatomy

On May 4, 2009, in TV, by mylifejoys

Seriously, if getting hooked into Grey’s anatomy is a disease, then I need to see a doctor.  I am so sick. I am so hooked.  There is no American tv drama that had this effect on me before.  Episode after episode is an event that is worth waiting for and worth reliving in dvd or streaming.  I love the mix of characters of Grey’s Anatomy.

In a landmark episode, their 100th, Meredith Grey and Derek Shepard portrayed by Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey (dubbed as McDreamy) will be tying a knot.  Izzie Stevens, a co-doctor in Seattle Grace Hospital (SGH) has wedding blog for them.

I took a quiz “Which Character Are You?”  from ABC’s wesite and here is the result:

The hot and debonaire Mark Sloan it is. Very flattering. McSteamy. Who am I to complain? Aside from his looks, this character portrayed by Eric Dane is also very good as a doctor. He may not have a popular start in the series as an ex-BFF who had an affair with McSteamy’s (his best bud) wife, but in this season– season five, we have seen more of the professional side that Mark can offer.  With the look and charm that made a lot of ladies kiss the road that he walks on, Mark is becoming tame now that he is dating Lexie or Little Grey as he calls her.

Yes, the world stopped spinning in less than six minutes. Then the last ten seconds, there was a sudden movement when almost all Filipinos jumped in victorious cheers as Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao won the title for the IBO Light Welter Weight division that Ricky “Hitman” Hatton as the current title holder.

In the battle dubbed as East Meets West, Pacman won by knocking out Hitman in the last ten seconds of 2nd Round.  In the first round, Pacman has knocked down Hitman twice. From there, many Filipinos, and later even Manny admitted, that the game is Manny’s.

In every Manny Pacquiao game, crime rate is at the lowest (or zero) during the show time.  Filipinos in all walks of life set aside their differences and become one in watching, praying, and cheering for the “Pambansang Kamao.”  It is such a privilege for the Pinoys of this generation to witness such historical milestone in a sport where another Pinoy is the Pound for Pound Champ.  Even Bob Arum, a professional boxing promoter, has claimed that he has not seen such combination of talent and speed that Pacman has.

To Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Team Pacquiao (headed by Coach Freddie Roach) who has been dedicating every game to Filipinos worldwide, Congratulations!
