In our homes where having a family meal where not only table space matters (that is why our parents, or we, for that matter, invest in big dining tables) but also a room for us to talk and animate our stories, branches of California Pizza Kitchen aka CPK offers a dining place away from home.
If you need good food for weekend family treats, there’s a lot that Metro Manila can offer. But this place doesn’t boast of good food alone but also “the space” that a family needs. For kids who cannot stay in place, the space is big enough not to disturb other diners. This is not our first time in CPK, in fact, I can’t remember how many times we’ve been to this branch.
People can talk at normal voice levels. I can remember one time in a different place when there is this group of diners talking about some stressful work-related topics and I can’t help but hear them. Besides, if I lean back a little further, my head will touch the other person behind me. I was there to relax for the weekend, for Pete’s sake. Then all I am hearing are annoying stories of their boss.

Friends are bragging about how good Secret Recipe’s cheesecakes are. They are even said to be award winning. When I tried it out at the 5th Level of Edsa Shangri-la Mall, it is indeed true. I ordered for a NY Cheesecake as suggested by Louels Aguilar, a pioneer of member from The Fort Global City branch. Although her initial suggestion was chocolate cheesecake, I had too much chocolate that day, so I’ll probably order for that next time.
Their menu are labeled with “award winning”, not a marketing frenzy but in reality had won international awards. This reminded me of Pantasia, which is an award winning bread company in the animé Yakitate Ja-pan. Aside from breads they have a number of main dishes originating from around Asia such as Vietnam, Malaysia, Japan, Thailand. They also have pasta dishes with a little twist of spiciness to make it more Asian.
When I saw in the list Tom Yum Kung and Laksa I had difficulty choosing. I missed their authentic tastes that I had first tried in Singapore. Even 711’s there have Tom Yum and Laksa instant noodles would you believe? I was expecting my order to arrive in 30 minutes or more as people start swarming the restaurant after the mall’s Sunday Mass. After 10 to 15 minutes or so, I have my steaming hot Tom Yum. Wow.
