In one of my visits in SM Hypermart Pasig, this whitish-yellowish bags piled by the cut flowers section got my attention. When I read the tag, it says “Oyster Mushroom Fruiting Bag.” Said to myself, “Well okay, let me try this… Php 50 is not bad enough to try it out.”
At home it was the first thing I unpacked. According to instruction, the bag should be placed in a damp or moist area such as the sink and remove the cotton plug. Sprinkle water 3x a day… So I did. A week after, there were some small cottony patches that appeared. Two days after, those patches were already little mushroomy-looking things starting to sprout. I left the house one morning and then in the evening here is what happened:

Everyday the whole family looks forward to the changes that happen in our kitchen as the mushroom started growing. My brother even asked me why buy the bag when I can buy the fruit anytime, all I said was that it is an accomplishment to see them grow and harvest fresh ones to be added to some fish or stir fry dishes.

Who would not want a hungarian sausage on sale for P 330 (U$ 7.30) at 1.5 kg in SM Hypermarket? Vegetarians of course! I was dreaming of a super breakfast of hungarian sausage, omellete, and garlic rice (sounds familiar? see my post on Amici) but to my dismay, Ate Myra (our all around cool household superhero) told me there was no such thing in my grocery bag when I arrived the night before.
I was like… “hu-what? Where is the receipt? It should be there… I remember paying for it”. And all the morning sunshine changed into a dark cloud, then drizzles… literally.
Good thing I had an errand that day that brought me to again to SM Hypermarket. Without a receipt on hand, I just tried asking from Customer Service about my lost hungarian sausage. Jude, a pretty and smiling lady inside the booth, asked me if I remember the price. Told her P 330 and asked me for my SM Advantage card if I have used such for my purchase. Asked if I forgot anything else… I answered, “None, that’s just it.” Jude told me, there was a zucchini in the bag that they found.
In my mind I was saying, “Okay there was zucchini but I don’t think it was lost, or was it?” and then a realization came… “You found my bag????”
So I waited for some minutes and they gave me a new stock of the same brand and my 1 pc zuchini is now 3 pcs. The rationale behind is that the price I got paid for it the day before was at P 120/kg (U$ 2.67/kg) while on the day i claimed it, it was on sale at P 50/kg (a little above U$ 1/kg).
Much more, the cashier lady who assisted me the day before approached me to tell her side of the story and apologized that she missed me when she ran after me upon noticing the sausage when I left it. She said that if the next customer may have mistakenly taken the bag then she would have not been able to return the goods to Customer Service.
There is sunshine after the rain, er, drizzle
. As they said, “Here at SM, we got it all for you!” Yeah, not just the goods but also the guts. For the cashier to apologize for not finding me, that’s really some Customer Service at its finest.
